BULLETIN: No. 22 – BUL – 007 New Pediatric Dosage

EFFECTIVE DATE: December 1, 2022


In recent review of policies, some protocols have come into question – of which, was the dosage of Pediatric Dextrose. This was brought to the Agency’s attention, which was causation for review, update, and implementation. Due to this change in concentration and dose, the Agency is implementing this based upon the ‘Emergency Policy Revision’ (Policy 132.00), with no revision period.

The new Pediatric Dextrose Dosing is as follows:  

Dextrose

    • For blood glucose less than <60 mg/dl

Less than <1 Year = D10 - 5 mL/kg IV or IO  
>1 Year to 14 Years = D10 – 150 mL IV or IO

 

This change will be made to all pediatric protocols which address administration of dextrose, including – Altered Level of Consciousness (555.31), Seizures (555.32), Hypothermia (555.62) and Heat Illness (555.64).
